Chicken Dhaniya@ Sambalpur Vs My mom’s Malabari Biriyani @ Kerala

“Ladies & Gentlemen welcome to the war of tastes.Lets avoid cliches & kiss the swords.Beware not to spill ‘anything’ from your mouth upon your laptop”

To introduce the teams :

Team A - Hotel Harjeet Sambalpur :- It you notice a shattered railway station & cows wandering on tracks en route to Mumbai from Kolkata, doubtless its Sambalpur.Lies in the outskirts of Orissa this city masquerades a village. Populated with expatriates from Punjab & Rajasthan this city is budding ground for business too. Harjeet is the most ‘livable’ hotel here. Expatriates have shared their hidden secrets of tastes across Sambalpur

Team B – My Mom : Wife of my famous dad, she is the most lovable lady Ive ever found.Even though a post graduate in English she had ‘suppressed’ her wonderful opportunities for us; me & my sis. I had started knowing the taste of food & the world from this wonderful lady

Countdown begins 1,2,33333333 go!!!!

Waiter : What would you like to have Sir?

Me: May I know whats special in Chicken here.

Waiter : You may go for Chicken Dhaniya or Lahori. Both are rich & great at tastes

Fortunately I am OK at physique & need not bother on calories as Americans bother on Obama’s

Me:Dhaniya Chicken & some hot phulkas

It took around 30 minutes for the same to get served.Served in earthen pot, boneless chicken crumbs were peeping at me from the dish.A lick of the curry & it was mind blowing!! It was a creamy mix of chicken with Dhaniya leaves to add on colours..

This finger licking taste pictured my moms Malabri Briyani .Made in a traditional way Malabari Biriyani is the tastiest food ive ever had. The cooking starts with a selection of rice & tender chicken. The chicken cooked in spicy mix need to be patiently mixed with the ghee splattered rice & artistically stirred. You may garnish it with roasted cashews for a luxury.

My concentrations went undisturbed whenever I have been served with this biriyani. I still wonder how it becomes wonderful without my mom even tasting it. Many a times she serves me without even keeping for her.

Taste is also a telepathy; wherein love, affection & care is passed on as taste.Hmmm..Anticipating for a finger licking taste again.Soon….
